Your physician should always be the person who decides what you can or cannot take according to his medical criterion. However, clinical evidence suggests that:
- Medications such as ranitidine, cimetidine, famotidine, almagate,… etc. do not affect the state of the bacterium, therefore they do not affect the test result.
- Proton pump inhibitors (omeprazole, pantoprazole, lansoprazole,… etc.), bismuth salts and any antibiotic therapy affect the state of the bacterium. So they should not be taken if you will be taking a breath test with TAU-KIT.
There is no record of the bacterium itself causing halitosis.
- If you take medications such as proton pump inhibitors (e.g. omeprazole) and/or bismuth salts, the time you have to wait before taking the breath test is 2 weeks from the last time you took these medications.
- If you take antibiotics, the wait time is 4 weeks. This is valid for any antibiotic therapy.
- If you have taken the test and had to repeat it for any reason (vomiting, non-compliance with the protocol during the test), you must wait until the next day to take the breath test again.
- If you have been subjected to eradication treatment, you must wait at least 4 weeks from the last time you took the antibiotic and 2 weeks from the last time you took proton pump inhibitors (e.g. omeprazole) and/or bismuth salts.
Yes, it is possible to obtain positive values in the breath test after having followed eradication treatment. This may primarily be due to factors such as antibiotic resistances or non-compliance with treatment. For this reason your physician must determine whether you require a second eradication treatment.
The TAU-KIT breath test is a harmless test containing urea as the active ingredient. This substance is endogenously generated in our organism, so the test can be taken as many times needed always according to the prescribing physician’s criterion. It is advisable to leave at least 1 day between tests.
